Millennial Business Owners: Part 2

How Your Business Can Appeal to Millennials

As we mentioned in part one of our Millennial Business Owners blog series, it is important to understand how to work with millennials as well as how to create a work environment that allows companies to retain and grow millennial talent. We stressed the importance of embracing diversity and optimism. Today we want to explore the remaining two tips: the importance of ecology and technology.

Go Green
According to The Business Journals’ SMB Insights, millennials are more concerned about the environment than baby boomers, with 51 percent of them moving to sustainable business efforts. If you want to do business with millennials, you have to speak their eco-language and take the time to explore sustainable options within your own business.

Technology Savvy
Millennials are a digital generation who grew up with technology. They expect the work place to keep up. This includes having the newest platforms and tools to help them stay informed, communicate and collaborate. To put this in perspective, 76 percent of millennials use smartphones to access business and news information. If the technology in your business is falling behind, team up with the millennials in your office to start exploring and evaluating the options.

This study also found the millennial generation is more social media savvy than ever with 39 percent of millennial business owners generating revenue directly from social media. So, if your business does not have a social media presence, now is the time to create those channels.
