Preparing For 2011: Personal Goals

Last week, I wrote about the importance of reviewing and making business goals, but those aren’t the only goals you should think about. You should also consider what you personally want to accomplish in the New Year. Improving yourself will help your business productivity and ambition. Take a cue from the process of evaluating and planning business goals and review your successes and setbacks this year. Consider the following areas in your life as you make your new goals.

1. Family and Friends
Make quality time in your schedule for the people you care about. Connect with family and friends you can’t see that often with phone calls and handwritten notes. I would even recommend keeping up with them by Facebook (yes, even I’m hooked)!

2. Career
When it comes to your career, here are some questions you should ask yourself to set your new goals.

3. Physical Health
Losing weight always tops the New Year’s Resolutions lists. One reason is because people make resolutions that they don’t keep. Remember to set realistic, attainable and specific goals. Don’t just resolve to lose weight, but aim to work out at the gym three times a week and eat a serving of vegetables every day. Joining a class or training group can also help keep you accountable. Also, you don’t have to wait until January 1 to start. Why now jumpstart your new routine in December?!

4. Mental Health
Stress and anxiety cause a lot of setbacks in our lives. Do you have a way to handle them? Try setting aside a time each week to unplug and truly relax and unwind. Have time to think about your goals and what steps you’re making in the week to reach them.
